Another magical day in Roma our hotel is a little questionable though. The shower shoots water all over the bathroom and the Internet is an old fashion plug in kind. Really who does that anymore. Also my phone doesn’t work no calls and no texting. How am I supposed to get my Roman history lessons from my daughter the expert.
What’s interesting is that when I’m at home I wake up at 6 am no matter what time I go to bed, when I went to Montreal I woke up at 6 am even though it was 3 hours earlier for me then I come to Rome and you guessed it. I didn’t sleep for 33 hours and still I wake up at 6 am which is midnight Montreal time. Go figure.
Anyway we began our day at 9:30 after a breakfast at the hotel. Then we got our bus to Campo diĀ Fiori a lovely market with the most lovely fresh fruits and vegetables. Then we went back to the Pantheon to go inside since it was closed last night what a fascinating building. Check out the history online or ask my daughter the expert on the Pantheon her favourite building in the world so far. The Piazza Navona is also stunning its talked about in angels and Demons (movie and book)
Everywhere you go in Rome is fascinating you can’t walk more than a block without seeing something to look at and admire not to mention take a picture of. There was a street artist in the Piazza that was wonderful I will try to post the video of him sometime. Then we headed to the Jewish ghetto for lunch. My friend told me where to go and what to ask for. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for renos but we found a lovely street cafe where I finally got my linguine al pesto, one of my favorites. We explored the Collesium, the Forum and Palatine hill which is always interesting. Then we saw a group of guys who I thought could be in a rock band that my daughter would know so I asked him and sure enough he belonged to Guns and Roses. I got a “rock” history lesson from Liv on that band too they have really played a role in music history.
We finished off at the “wedding cake” my favourite building its also called Monument if Emmanuel and the Venezia (Venice) a gorgeous building. We will be posting pictures on flickr soon.
We stopped at a lovely street cafe for dinner on our way back to the hotel after another 12 hour walking day. You never realize hiw far and how long you have walked in Rome there is just so much to preoccupy you.
Travelling tip: order meals with your travelling companion so you get to try different things without having to eat the whole thing by yourself.
